Each applicant must meet the following criteria to be eligible for consideration:

  • Apply for and be accepted at the College of Charleston.
  • Must have a completed FAFSA on file with the College of Charleston’s Financial Aid Office to demonstrate a financial need.
  • Submit the Call Me MISTER application below which includes:
    • One essay that addresses the student’s desire for entering the teaching profession, how the applicant believes the Call Me MISTER program will benefit them as a student and educator, and how the applicant can contribute to the program. Essays must be no more than one page, double spaced.
    • Two letters of recommendation should be emailed to Anthony James at aljames@cofc.edu no later than midnight on April 1, 2022. 
      1. One from a teacher, guidance counselor, or principal at the high school from which the diploma is earned.
      2. One from a person of the student’s choice who can express the student’s involvement in the community and/or potential for entering the teaching profession.

Please note: You must be logged into Google to submit this application. There is no option for saving and returning to this application, so be sure you have all the required documents and information ready before you begin your application. The essay should be saved in your Google Drive for easy upload into the application. Optional questions include SAT and/or ACT scores, Honors, and Extracurricular Activities. 

After we have received your application, we will contact you to schedule an interview to discuss your potential for teaching and motivations for participation in the program, as well as to provide an opportunity for clarification of any information submitted through the application process.
