Excel in foreign language education by studying education theories and practices and immersing yourself in the language by living and studying abroad.
As a foreign language education major, you will immerse yourself in a foreign language while studying education theories and practices. You'll understand language acquisition theory and develop plans for integrating foreign language coursework into a well-rounded curriculum. After graduation, you may start a career in teaching, or look to earn a graduate degree in education or another area.
Students in this program don't just major in education, they also complete a full major in either Classics, French, German or Spanish. In the process, they learn to teach a foreign language to students from kindergarten through the 12th grade. Our program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
"Charleston is a great place for the student-teacher experience because there's a real diversity of schools here: large ones and small ones, rural and urban – all kinds. The teachers I’ve observed have been open and helpful, and I'm confident that I'll be an effective language teacher after I graduate."
